Wake up in the heart of the entertainment industry right here in Cincinnati! Young actors (and parents) are invited to examine and learn the Hollywood film and television industry first hand by top A-List industry coaches, casting directors, agents, working actors and industry parents. Whether you are coming to us from the heartland of the USA or the other side of the world, it will be a camp experience you will remember forever!

Our camp will educate those preparing to enter the acting business, introduce or broaden the art of acting for the camera through challenging well rounded acting classes with the best instructors in Hollywood. Most importantly, while learning, we offer the most FUN and dynamic camp experience with the most fun and dynamic industry pro’s!

The level of experience does not matter when you arrive. You will leave with a wide-ranging level of understanding... of career choices in the industry, how it all works and the willingness to go after success in film & television.

Besides the acting training we will be introducing a Glee Inspired Class where participants will learn a Glee Inspired number that will be the opening act for the Showcase.

Lori Knight will be bringing some of her working clients to assist in classes. See the current panelists list below.

Panelists will receive packet on each actor in the showcase. Packets will be prepared by actors and coach during the week of training. Packets provided by the acting camp.

Showcase Panelists will fill out individual assessment sheets on each actor based on showcase performance and they will be mailed to participants. Showcase panelists interested in further discussions with a specific actor will fill out request forms that will be given to the participants directly. Actors will be able to mingle with panelists after showcase until they have to leave for airport.

Participants will receive completion Oscars and goodies!

$2,250.00 all inclusive.

Six Questions with Stylist/Make-Up Artist Sue Prosser

1. Can you tell us a little about your background and training?
I am what is referred to as “Industry trained”. I started out in the Modeling side of the industry, and from there became interested in the art of make up and styling. I studied every book I could get my hands on, practiced on everyone who was kind (and courageous) enough to let me, and found working artists who were willing to share their expertise and clients with me. I built my resume and portfolio by working with a local talent agency in their photo shoots, and by test shooting with photographers. I also marketed myself to production companies and other venues.

2. What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about your job?
There are so many great things about what I do, but it’s easy to pick what I love most about my job; making people feel better about themselves. I absolutely love to see someone leave my chair not only transformed on the outside, but hopefully on the inside too. As an artist, I’m amazed at the uniqueness each of us is given, and much of the time, I find the things people dislike most about their appearance are the very things I think make them beautiful in a way that is theirs alone.

3. What is the best advice you would give someone looking to become a Stylist/Make-Up Artist?
There are many options to choose from to become an artist/stylist, but no matter what you choose, you have to be willing work hard, study, practice, and network. Build relationships with those already in the industry. You may have to work for free or even at a job that is less than ideal for a while, but the experience and insight you gain is well worth it. Most importantly, be persistent. There are many ups and downs when building your career, and there may be times when you want to walk away. But if this is something you truly want to do, then believe me that hanging in there is well worth too.

4. What are some must have items in your Make-Up kit?
I like to carry 3-4 shades of foundation-that way I can mix them to match any skin color. Also, two shades of pressed powder-colorless, and yellow-these shades should work on most people for touch ups on the set. In addition, stock your kit with basic skin care. Fragrance free moisturizer, disposable skin cleansing cloths, and a toothbrush made for babies. That one sounds weird, but comes in really handy when you use it along with lip balm to remove chapped skin from lips (an adult brush is too harsh for the delicate skin on the lips).

5. When you are booked for a job, what questions do you ask before the shoot?
I start by asking approximately how many people I will be working on. That helps me determine how much product and tools to stock in my kit. Next, I ask where the shoot is taking place-indoors or out, and the time of day. If it is a film project, I like to know what type of camera is being used (i.e. HD) I also ask if the project is being shot in black and white or color. All this info determines the type of make up I will need, along with the techniques I will use to apply it.

6. What do you tell talent they should do to prepare for a shoot?
Ask if the wardrobe (that includes shoes and accessories) is provided, and if there will be a stylist/make up artist available. Even if the answers are yes, as a professional, you should always carry a completely stocked model bag.

For ladies, that includes a complete set of make up supplies, tweezers, nail file, a variety of the latest style jewelry and shoes, panty hose in nude, black and beige (get the “sheer to waist type) and hair products and tools.

For guys, a variety of current style shoes, concealer, powder and hair products/tools as well a shaving kit.

For both guys and ladies, double sided masking tape, clothes pins and butterfly clips (the kind you find at the office supply store) and a face shield to protect your hair, make up, and clothing when getting dressed (you can find these at beauty supply stores). Be sure to pack some of stain remover too. It’s also important to have a travel clothing steamer or iron.

For clothes, solid T shirts (no logos or writing), jeans (not ripped or worn out) shirts, blouses and black and khaki flat front style dress pants (flat front compliment almost all body types in both genders).

As a general rule, it’s best to show up on set with a clean face and straight hair. If the job was booked through your agent, it’s important to call them with questions about specifics. If they don’t know, they will find out for you. Be sure not to contact the client directly unless you’re directed otherwise by your agency.

Apologies for the way that we have been slacking on our posts. Lots of exciting things going on behind the scenes, that have been keeping us busy. Here are some recent happenings:

Traffic has doubled to www.W6Talent.com each of the past three months.
West Sixth now has over 3,400 connections on Facebook.
West Sixth recently added about 50 more models in Northeastern Ohio.
Ad Agencies have been contacting us about projects they need help on.
West Sixth has been meeting with photographers, stylists and talent agencies in new markets. Over the next couple months you will see us growing into even more states!
West Sixth is getting over 200 emails a day now, so please don't be mad it we don't respond quickly.

One of the most exciting things we have going on is the update to our website. We are just finalizing homepage designs and we are hoping to get the new site up at the first of the year. The new look will feature a different photographer (Eric Mull is featured above) and model on our homepage each week. We have been meeting with the creative agencies who are currently using W6Talent.com, and they are really excited about the new look and easier functionality of the site.

Looking for 10-12 year old kids for national advertising campaign

Optiem, a Cleveland-based production company, is searching for children, aged 10 to 12, for a national advertising campaign for Fathead. The advertisement may appear on national television and online. We are looking for 10-12 year old boys and girls, who fit the description of a “hipster kid:” great haircut, cute, cool clothes and accessories.

We’re looking for the kids who can present themselves as “having it all” and/or the “popular kid.”

The non-union actors and actresses who audition must be comfortable speaking and acting in front of a camera. Experience is preferred.

Unpaid auditions will take place at the Optiem offices in downtown Cleveland on October 3rd from 10:00am to 2:00pm, and on October 6th and 8th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Each audition will not last longer than 30 minutes. Following auditions, the chosen candidates will receive $100 per hour for approximately 8-16 hours of work.

North Business Association and S2/Wilhelmina, one of the nation's premier modeling and talent management companies, will be holding an Open Model Call on September 24, 2009 for theCostume Couture Fashion Showdown segment of the 2009 HighBall Halloween: Masquerade On High. Up to sixty models will be featured on the extravagant, 80-foot runway built directly on High Street under the Short North's signature arches. In its debut last year, the event attracted nearly 10,000 guests who filled the venue, cheering for the fashion and costume designs presented by the models.

Open Call Specifications

The call is open to all men 5' 10 and taller and women 5' 5" and taller who are interested in participating in the Costume Couture Fashion Showdown October 31, 2009. Selected models will work with local fashion designers and will strut their stuff on the HighBall Runway.

About the Event
The event was introduced to wild acclaim on October 31, 2008. It is a production of the Short North Business Association. Nearly 10,000 guests attended year one. HighBall is built on a foundation of fashion and the artistry of the masquerade. The central focus of the event is the 80-foot runway built directly on High Street under the glowing iconic arches that line the Short North corridor. The street is converted to a high-tech, New York-style, celebration of Columbus' creativity. Music. Dancing. Seeing. Being Seen. The evening features a number of fashion and costume competitions held on the runway.

About the Costume Couture Fashion Showdown

Established and emerging fashion designers take to the runway with four looks from their standard collection as literally thousands of guests cheer them on. In addition, each designer creates one couture costume to cap off his/her collection. That single piece is judged by a panel of industry experts and one designer is crowned HighBall Couture Costume Designer of the Year. Fifty to sixty models participate on the runway in the showdown.

The feature-length film "Lifted" goes into production at the end of next month in the Birmingham, AL area , under a SAG Modified Low Budget Agreement. This will mark the second collaboration between Hunter Films of Birmingham and Director, Lexi Alexander ("Hooligans" with Elijah Wood and last year's "Punisher: War Zone"). Their "Johnny Flynton" earned an Academy Award nomination for best live-action short film in 2003.

“Lifted” tells the story of a young Alabama boy who shares his father’s passion for R&B music. Just before the boy is to compete in a singing contest in Birmingham, his father is recalled for a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Father and son do manage to reunite in time for the big competitionDash Mihok, who also starred in “Johnny Flynton,” and hip hop artist Kid Cudi are signed for the film.

Guidelines to follow when you audition

West Sixth Talent caught up with Suzanne from Midwest Model Management to find out what tips Midwest recommends before an audition.

Always be prepared for your audition.
Arrive thirty minutes prior to the audition time. This will allow ample time to check in, warm up and check out your competition.
Bring at least 2 headshots and resumes. Photos should reflect your current physical likeness. Continually update your photos and resume so you are always current.
Do not chew gum (directors hate it).
When attending callbacks, wear the same attire worn at the audition. Remember, act as you did in the audition that is why they called you back!
Be confident, smile and always have a positive attitude.
Get excited about everything you are asked to do.

Actors/Improvisation:

Be prepared to recite without the opportunity for preparation.
The ability to use different voices and dialects are a plus.
Prepare a dramatic and comical monologue no more than 2 minutes in length.

Singers:

Bring 2 selections of sheet music, one up-tempo and one ballad. (Accompaniment ready)
Be prepared to sing 16 bars. (Be ready to show your best)
Know your vocal range, and use it to its best potential.
Sheet music should have full musical notation and be in the key in which you will perform. If the audition requires movement, dress appropriately

Dancers:

Wear appropriate dance attire.
Bring appropriate dance shoes.
If the audition requires singing, bring at least 2 selections of sheet music, one up-tempo and one ballad. Let us know what tips you want to share!

Hair:

Bobby pins, brush, comb, rubber bands, hair spray, gel, blow dryer, flattening iron, curling iron, hair accessories (if you have highlights or colored hair, make sure you do not have roots)

All makeup supplies:

Women: foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blush, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, lipstick, lip gloss, brushes, tweezers, mirror
Men: Foundation, powder, chapstick, Vaseline, shaving kit

Nails and Toes:

Should be in a neutral color at working length
Nail repair kit, an assortment of neutral polishes including clear and a nail file

Jewelry:

Stud earrings, dress and sport watches, wedding band and current style jewelry

Shoes:

Female: pumps, flats, boots, sandals, clean white sneakers. All current styles.
Men: clean white sneakers, loafers, sandals and boots. All current styles.

Clothing:

An assortment of colored t-shirts (NO LOGOS). Jeans, dress pants (black and Khaki) Plain button downs, selection of belts, skirts, blouses

Underwear:

Women: Several pair of nude, black, beige pantyhose (sheer) (seamless). Flesh color bras, Black and white bras (including strapless). Slip, nude and black (half and full). Selection of socks, selection of nude and white g-string underwear.
Men: white and flesh colored briefs, boxer briefs. Also a jock strap.

Misc:

A scarf or dress shield (to cover your face when trying on different clothes)
Small sewing kit with scissors and safety pins of all sizes
Tissue, cotton balls, Q-tips, scotch tape and wide masking tape
Map Quest directions the night before your shoot. Make sure you have the client’s names and address along with your call time
Some of the contents may or may not pertain to you. If you are a female you will need certain things that a male will not need and visa versa. Make sure you find out as much as you can about the shoot so you are prepared.

The business is currently working with talent agencies in the Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, with plans to expand nationally. This talent portal is designed to save advertising agencies time and money while providing them with a broader pool of talent to choose from.

West Sixth Talent helps ad agencies, photographers and other related creative professionals find and book professional talent. Professional talent can gain more exposure and increase their bookings by becoming a member of West Sixth Talent and creating a profile on the website. Here are some quick tips for models:

Professional Images: When you upload your image to our site, make sure the images are professionally shot images. Do not upload any web cam shots, mirror shots, and personal snapshots.
No Nudity: W6 wants to only book you for professional work, so please do not post any inappropriate images. Images deemed inappropriate will be removed. This means no nudity. If you continue to abuse the site, your profile may be removed.
Up Date Images Regularly: Make sure to keep your images up to date. Creative agencies book you based on what you look like on the photos you have posted. If the creative agency wanted someone with long hair and you show up with short hair, this could potentially cost you work.
Be on Time: If you have to be there at 9 am and you show up at 9 am you are late. 8:45 am is on time and 8:30 is early. Make sure to confirm location, cell phone numbers and shoot time and make up time for your gig.
Networking: When you show up for a job, make sure to bring business cards to share with the creative agency, photographer and the client. If you make an impression they may remember you for their next project.
Final Photos: Also make sure to grab a business card from the creative agency running the project. Ask them to send you a final from the shot to add to your portfolio.
Jump Drive: You may also want to bring a jump drive to each shoot. You should politely ask the photographer or creative director in charge to share the raw images with you. These could again make for great new additions to your portfolio.

How Does Getting Booked Work?
A creative agency or photographer will search the site. When they want to book you, they will call your talent agency directly, just like the would if they found you on your talent agency's website.

What If My Talent Agency Isn't In The List?
Contact us and tell us who your talent agency is. If they are a legitimate agency, we will add them to our approved list.

What If The List of Specialties, Ethnic Groups, Locations or Languages does not contain mine?
